This is the perfect low key easter activity for toddlers! As a mom of 3 this is why I love it so much…

  1. It’s SO EASY!!
  2. You can play it over and over again!
  3. Your toddler will love it but so will your older kids!
  4. It’s great practice for Easter Day egg hunts!
  5. Mixing education and fun is the best!

Now that you know why I love this simple toddler activity so much. Let’s get into the details of how you can recreate this for your kids again and again!

How to Create a Toddler Easter Egg Color Hunt AT HOME INDOORS

  • First inform your toddler that you will be doing an Easter Egg hunt INSIDE!
  • Tell them to close their eyes or go in another room while you hide the eggs.
  • Hide the plastic easter eggs all over your house. *Tip, don’t make the hiding spots too hard.
  • Then inform your toddler that this is a special easter egg hunt and you only want them to find one color at a time.
  • Then you can choose whatever color you want them to find first and cheer them on in their search.
  • Example: Ok, this first round you are going to look for only BLUE EGGS!
  • Then, Repeat this process until they have found all the colored eggs.
  • After they have found all the eggs you can have them sort the eggs by color. I just used random bowls to have them sort the different colors.
  • Optional: It’s fun to add in an actual egg crate to sort with or just to use to count the eggs!

Easter Egg Color Hunt OUTSIDE

Another variation is to turn this into Easter OUTDOOR ACTIVITY.

You could do the same thing I just explained but do it outside.

And to up the ante a little you could add small treats inside their eggs.

Like a snack or something of that sort. Whatever you think would motivate your toddler.

Extra points if it’s the same color as the egg it’s in!

Materials You’ll need for Easter Egg Color Hunt

  • Plastic Easter Eggs
  • Easter Basket
  • Bowls for Sorting
  • Egg Crate

If you like this activity. That’s awesome! I’ve come up with more SIMPLE EASTER ACTIVITIES FOR TODDLERS you can use to entertain your toddler!

And if you need to be convinced further. Here is why sorting practice is so important for toddlers…

Teaching toddlers to sort actually helps little brains learn to recognize patterns, build problem-solving skills, and even prep for early math.

It’s a great way to challenge their minds and prep them for other math lessons to come.

Plus, you know that phase when your toddler dumps out every toy bin like they’re on a mission? But then they abort that mission as soon as they’ve dumped every toy out.

Turns out, that’s the perfect time to sneak in some sorting practice!

Your directive could go something like this, “Let’s put all the blue ones together!” or “Can you find all the tiny toys?” It keeps them busy, builds their skills, and might just make cleanup a little easier. Win-win!

Bonus Activity – Jelly Bean Sorting

Another simple Easter sorting activity for your toddler is sorting Jelly Beans!

I simply cut out an egg with different color construction paper. Then direct my toddler to put all the red on the red or the green on the green and so forth!

It’s super forth and lends itself to sorting really well.

You can also count them and make patterns!
