I’ve been a mom for almost a decade now and I’m here to tell you. There is no elusive “perfect time” for anything! Because life is not perfect and motherhood definitely isn’t perfect so you can just stop holding yourself to that standard right now.
Even Susan, you know her, the mom that appears like she has it all together. Wears the cute outfits, has a 3 hour morning routine and never raises her voice. Yeah, she’s not perfect either. I promise!
There’s no real magical answer to “how to follow your dreams as a busy mom” but there are some very applicable steps to take to get there step by step.
What is real is toddler tantrums, a messy house, laundry that just won’t quit and mom guilt that plays in your head 24/7!
Well, I’m here to remind you that amongst all of that, you need to give yourself permission to go after that dream or passion!
Because there is not perfect time and going after the damn thing won’t be perfect either.
But you know what will feel glorious, JUST STARTING!!
Knowing you have given yourself permission to matter and relentlessly go after that thing that lights you on fire!
So, perfection is a stinking liar but the truth is…
You CAN start going after your dreams today!
p.s. the truth is I’m writing this post while my three kids are running around me, there’s a huge mess on the kitchen table and I can hear a new load of laundry calling my name. But, this is important to I set my timer for a certain period time so I could write. Write to you!

The Myth of the Perfect Time (The Mom Motivation You Need)
We tell ourselves someday—when the kids are older, when the house is clean, when life feels less busy—that’s when we’ll finally start.
But “someday” has a way of turning into never. And what message does that send to our kids? That mom’s dreams don’t matter? That life is only about keeping up with everyone else’s needs?
Oh man, does that not hit you square in the gut!!
RELATED: How Busy Moms Find Time for Themselves
So much of our time is spent caring for others, which is amazing. Don’t get me wrong, being a mom is literally my greatest gift!
But you know what else is a gift?!
Your kids seeing you absolutely on fire for a dream that gives you a new twinkle in your eye and pep in your step!
They’ll get to see a new version of you. Not just of care taker, boo boo kisser, cuddle giver but one of STRENGTH, PASSION, RELENTLESS COMPASSION to go after that thing that’s on your heart!
So, you may be thinking how do we ever start?!
Well, let me take the pressure off. It doesn’t have to be some big daunting thing.
You simply just. start!
Take that first imperfect step then take another one and another one until you are doing the dang thing!!
Let’s break it down a little further so you feel empowered to start after you finish this post!
It’s important to remember a few important things…

Progress Over Perfection for Your Dream Chasing Journey
Starting doesn’t mean you have to launch a business tomorrow, write a book in a weekend, or suddenly add 10 hours into your schedule. It means taking one small, DOABLE step.
Here are a few realistic ways to get started:
- Grab a piece of paper between making lunch and cleaning up lunch and start jotting down ideas about your dream.
- Find a local or online class/course that teaches you more about your dream.
- Set a timer for 10 minutes (we love this kids one) a day and dedicate it to working on your passion, no matter what! It’s okay to set boundaries. Even with your kids.
Your progress won’t be perfect—it might be scribbled notes during nap time, voice memos while driving to soccer practice, or late-night brainstorming with a messy bun and cold coffee.
But that’s the beauty of it: FORWARD IS FORWARD, MOTION IS MOTION!
The little momentum is all you need so get your self started and to continue going!
⸻
Why Starting Now Matters
Here’s the thing—your kids are watching. When they see you choosing yourself sometimes, they learn that their own dreams are worth protecting too.
They see that life isn’t about waiting for permission, but about creating space for what matters most.
And maybe, just maybe, you’ll find that when you fill your own cup by pursuing something meaningful, you show up as a more energized, inspired version of yourself for your family too.
⸻

Permission Granted to Chase Your Dreams
So here it is, mama—your permission slip.
To start now. To do it messy. To do it tired. To do it imperfectly.
Because your dream isn’t waiting for a “perfect time.” It’s waiting for YOU.
And you?
You’re more than ready!
Your are stronger than you think and I believe in you and I’m cheering you on!
Love,
Lindsey
